Development sketchbook page

This is one of my developmental pages in my sketchbook, for the brief 'landscapes', it includes primary photography that influenced my work as well as simple line drawings and textural samples, that all inspired me within this brief.

Close up of sample

Dimensions- (30x20cm approx.)
This image shows a detailed close up of a textural sample. To create this piece I used applique, couching and hand and machine stitch. I also cut out sections and sewed a photograph of some detailed moss behind to add more vibrant colour to the piece.

Design roughs with CAD and samples

Dimensions (A1 presentation board)
Presentation board based around the theme of 'Landscapes' showing a machine stitched textural sample, used to develop into CAD pattern designs in Photoshop, through repeating, mirroring and duplicating sections of the sample. Also featuring design roughs, illustrating possible garment ideas linked to the designs.

Life drawing

Dimensions- (A1)
Life drawing using black inks
Image 1- ink drawing on wet paper of female model. This line drawing is made abstract as the ink has bled onto the paper.
Image2- Ink drawing on wet paper that has been allowed to dry slightly. My drawing focuses on extended angular lines for the shoulders and face area. These extended lines emphasise the human figure and create an interesting element of texture.

Print ideas

Dimensions- (Sketchbook double page)
This image shows one of my developed print ideas for a fabric digital print piece, based on the theme 'Identity'. It combines the ideas of barcodes and things that make up my own personal identity, such as cotton reals, bracelets and ribbons. The colours are very simple only featuring black and white, and I focused on using thick lines so that the print would be bold. My initial ideas for this print were to produce a fabric flocking printed piece.

Identity Development

Dimensions- (A1 presentation board)
Presentation board on the theme of 'Identity' featuring a theme board and colour palette, CAD illustrations, technical drawings of garments, and digital print samples. This board shows part of the developmental process of my current brief. The digital prints are printed onto cotton poplin featuring various interpretations of Identity.

Textural samples with illustration

Dimensions- (A1 presentation boards)
This board features two very textural samples, that combine techniques such as dissolvable film, tyvek, hand stitch, machine stitch, appliqué and couching to create detailed samples that represent the textures and colours of the natural landscape. These are combined with illustrations using fine liner and watercolour paints, that use brush lines to represent the texture.

CAD patterns

Dimensions- (A1 presentation board)
A collection of CAD patterns developed in Photoshop based on the theme of 'Natural world', my direction and focus being on flowers, using natural browns/creams and a hint of pink. I created these patterns by scanning into Photoshop one of my initial drawings and editing this, experimenting with scale, placement and repeat patterns.

Photography, pattern and latex

Dimensions- (A1 presentation board)
Board focusing on the texture of wood within the 'landscape'. This presentation board features my initial primary photograph of a section of drift wood. The illustrations and patterns are created in CAD from photographs and scans go stitched samples.
Sample- latex with dye ands string

Sketchbook devlopment and research

Sketchbook development page
Double page of sketchbook featuring artist research that has influenced my stitched wallpaper samples (left page). I feel this page shows the development of ideas and influences, it also shows some of my own ink and brushing drawings. This page is at the beginning of my sketchbook, when I was gathering ideas, research and inspiration.

Textural samples with illustrations

Dimensions- (A1 presentation boards)
Two textural samples showing detailed stitching techniques accompanied with fashion illustrations of haute couture designs using watercolour paint blotches and strokes, with fine liner pen detail over the top.

CAD illustrations and patterns

Dimensions- (A1 presentation board)
(Bottom) Detailed digital photograph of a close up of strands of grass based around the theme 'landscapes'.
(Middle) Patterns created in CAD from the photograph below and repeated. I find these pieces really interesting due to the eye shape created within the patterns
(Top) Hand drawn illustrations edited in Photoshop to add the patterns to the designs and development of  ideas.

'Culture Warrior" body adornment

Dimensions (A1 presentation board)
Presentation board based around the 'Culture warrior' focusing on traditional metal armour and the American Indian colour palette and feathers. The samples are created using hand and machine stitch and appliqué. The photo shoot photographs show the shoulder and front detail.

Textural samples and illustrations

Dimensions- (A1 presentation board)
This is one of my developmental boards, that features a variety of brusho and ink textural swatches. At the top are a variety of textural samples that include felt making, dissolvable film, tyvek and plastic manipulation, all combined to be incorporated within a CAD illustration.

Sketchbook developments

Sketchbook development page on the theme 'identity'.
These pages explore the idea of using barcodes to represent identity. I have experimented with different ways of producing the barcode affect, using mono print, transfer onto celetape, and fine liner pen. I have then created design roughs of jackets and coats from these ideas.

Developmental board (A1)

Dimensions- (A1 presentation board)
I based this board around the silver colour palette.
(Top left) Sample created on metal using disperse dye and feather created in biro pen. Over payed with a laser cut sample.
(Top right) Machine embroidery sample with appliqué and silver embossing powder.
(Middle left)- Screen printed sample of a barcode using the foiling technique.
(Middle right)- Design roughs and notes.
(Bottom) Textiles sample, aimed to create texture with detailed stitch samples.
